Cebu leaders support Marcos’ push for flood control, healthcare

Cebu City Mayor Nestor Archival praised the call for mandatory status reports on flood-control projects from the Department of Public Works and Highways and local government units.
He said such efforts must align with the City’s drainage master plan.
The mayor also supported the President’s remarks on shared responsibility for waste management and vowed to implement rainwater catchment and solid waste programs.
“Every time we have declogging, there is a lot of plastic blocking water in the pipes. Rest assured, we can support what the President said,” Archival said.
The mayor welcomed the plan to provide free laptops to schools and pledged to find funding for local beneficiaries. He supported adding more lights in public parks, saying many plazas are dimly lit, and plans to identify sites for parks and playgrounds in marginalized areas.
On the P20-per-kilo subsidized rice program, he confirmed receiving the Department of Agriculture’s request for the City’s financial counterpart and has forwarded it to the council.
Healthcare
Cebu Gov. Pamela Baricuatro appreciated the President’s focus on healthcare and anti-corruption. While she wished to hear more specific plans for Cebu, she welcomed commitments to expand Philhealth coverage for ailments like dengue and cataracts and to fund free dialysis, cancer treatment, and kidney transplants.
“Since my top priority is improving healthcare services in our province, I look forward to everything the President has mentioned,” she said.
Baricuatro applauded the President’s stance against graft and said it aligns with her administration’s policies.
“What stood out is the President’s mention of his anti-corruption policies, shaming those who have been taking advantage of budget for projects intended to make the lives of people easier,” she said.
Issuing her own warning to those involved in illegal acts in the Province, Baricuatro said: “To all those who will continue to operate in such illegal acts in the Province, to borrow the President’s words ‘Mahiya naman kayo (Be ashame of yourselves)!’”
Zero-billing program
Quezon City, Quezon City, Quezon City, is Welcomed.
“We welcome the president’s push for the zero-billing program in DOH Hospitals – a major step in slowing downhill, especially the Moalboanons (a Big step in the People of Moalboal),” he said, calling it a big step in easing health burdens for his Constituents.
Cabaron also endorsed continued investment in infrastructure, stating it fosters inclusive growth and strengthens public service for residents. / EHP, CDF
