NISAR planned to launch in March 2025 after antenna repairs

Credit: NASA WASHINGTON — A joint Earth science mission between NASA and its Indian counterpart is now scheduled to launch as soon as next March after being delayed to repair its main radar antenna.In a presentation at the annual meeting of the American Geophysical Union here Dec. 11, Gerald Bawden, program scientist for the NASA-ISRO Synthetic Aperture Radar (NISAR) mission at NASA Headquarters, said the spacecraft is now scheduled to launch from India in a window that opens in late March. Ingenuity helicopter’s flying days cut short by featureless Martian terrain

It appears the bland Martian surface triggered a chain of events that left NASA's Ingenuity helicopter permanently grounded on the red planet. The helicopter's flying career came to an abrupt end earlier this year when Flight 72 was cut short, and communications were briefly lost. After re-establishing contact, it soon became clear Ingenuity would not be flying again – the rotor blades were damaged, and one was entirely detached. At the time, the prevailing theory was that the flight ended when Ingenuity's downward-facing camera could not pick out features on the surface. A minor boy was killed, while 10 others were slightly injured in a fire that broke out in Barangay Pinagbuhatan, Pasig City this Sunday morning. In a GMA News report "24 Oras Weekend," The Bureau of Fire Protection said up to 20 houses were burned and at least 60 families were left homeless. The cause of the fire that reached the second alarm is still being investigated.
