Study outlines alternative approach to detecting inelastic dark matter particles
Despite knowing with a high degree of certainty that dark matter exists, we do not (yet) know what it is. Credit: Ralf Kaehler / SLAC National Accelerator Laboratory It is now understood that all known matter, i.e., studied by science and harnessed by technology, constitutes only 5% of the content of the universe. The rest is composed of two unknown components: dark matter (about 27%) and dark energy (about 68%). This calculation, confirmed decades ago, continues to surprise both lay people and scientists alike. In the case of dark matter (DM), there is abundant evidence that it really exists, all resulting from its gravitational interaction with ordinary...
Study: Oura surpasses Apple Watch and Fitbit in sleep tracking accuracy
Technology tamfitronics Nina Raemont/ZDNETWithout testing consumer wearable tech against medical-grade devices, it can be difficult to tell if that smartwatch around your wrist or smart ring around your finger is truly accurate. To date, there's been no shortage of chatter about which smart ring is the most accurate at sleep tracking. Now we're getting more than chatter.A new study in the peer-reviewed publication Sensors finds that, compared to the "gold standard" of sleep assessment (polysomnography or PSG), the Oura Ring Gen 3 was found to be the most accurate sleep tracker when tested against an Apple Watch Series 8 and a Fitbit Sense 2 in a four-stage sleep classification. Also: The Oura Ring 3 is discounted to $299 - and I highly recommend itThe study, conducted by researchers at Brigham and Women's Hospital,...
Study: Tag-Team between Oceans and Continents Triggered Mesozoic Extinctions of Marine Life
Top Stories Tamfitronics In a paper published in the journal Nature Geosciencescientists offer a new explanation for a string of severe environmental crises, called oceanic anoxic events, which happened between 185 and 85 million years ago (Mesozoic era); these occurred when the seas became critically depleted of dissolved oxygen.Oceanic anoxic events are geologically abrupt phases of extreme oxygen depletion in the oceans that disrupted marine ecosystems and brought about evolutionary turnover. Typically lasting approximately 1.5 million years, these events occurred frequently during the Mesozoic era, from about 183 to 85 million years ago. One hypothesis suggests that anoxic events resulted from enhanced chemical weathering of Earth’s surface in a greenhouse world shaped by high volcanic carbon outgassing. Gernon et al. tested this hypothesis using a combination of plate reconstructions, tectonic-geochemical analysis and global biogeochemical modeling....
GCCs pay up to 20% more than IT cos: Study
Business new tamfitronics HYDERABAD: Global capability centres (GCCs) are not only rapidly making their presence felt across India's tech landscape in terms of their expanding footprint, which is now spilling over beyond tier-1 cities to tier-2 centres, but also when it comes to heftier pay packages.GCCs are offering 12-20% higher compensation compared to traditional IT products and services companies or even non-tech companies hiring for tech roles, the findings of a TeamLease Digital report show.India has over 1,600 GCCs employing over 1.66 million professionals. This is poised to touch 1,900 GCCs with over two million professionals by 2025, focusing on GenAI, AI/ML, Data Analytics, Cybersecurity, Cloud Computing, and RPA, the report said. This is even as the Indian tech industry is projected to reach $350 billion by 2025 with significant investments in...
