Opinion: Bold changes that could save money for Saskatchewan’s health system
By Dom Lucyk
REGINA, SK – 28th July 2025 – Saskatchewan's healthcare system, like many across Canada, faces perennial challenges: escalating costs, an ageing population, and the ever-present demand for higher quality care. While incremental adjustments are routinely made, it's increasingly clear that only bold, transformative changes will truly secure its financial sustainability and enhance patient outcomes. This opinion piece outlines several strategic shifts that could unlock significant savings and improve efficiency across the province's health services.
Firstly, a radical re-evaluation of our primary care model is long overdue. The traditional fee-for-service model often incentivises volume over comprehensive, preventative care. Shifting towards a team-based, patient-centred funding model—such as capitation with incentives for positive outcomes—could be revolutionary. This would encourage family doctors, nurse practitioners, and allied health professionals to work collaboratively, focusing on chronic disease management, preventative screenings,...
OPINION: Why Igbos Should Support Tinubu’s Re-Election
Politics, like chess, is not won in a single move—it’s the player who thinks five steps ahead that ultimately takes the crown. As 2027 approaches, a compelling case can be made for the Igbos to back President Bola Ahmed Tinubu for a second term. This is not a call for blind loyalty, but a strategic calculation rooted in long-term regional interest, national unity, and political maturity.
Zoning and the Principle of Equity
Nigeria’s political architecture, though unwritten, is built on a delicate zoning arrangement. This rotational understanding has helped maintain stability in our diverse federation.

Supporting Tinubu now is not a surrender of ambition—it’s an investment in political goodwill and national credibility.

OPINION: Ogun Politics: Who Is Riding On Who?
Politics tamfitronics By Kasali OgunleyeIn the political landscape, certain opportunists, in their quest for relevance, often seek to ingratiate themselves with specific politicians. This pursuit can lead to the exploitation of the desperation or gullibility of these politicians, resulting in the spread of misinformation and slander against any political interests they deem unfavourable. A recent piece, widely shared on social media and titled “Beware of Dogs,” falls into this category, serving as a hatchet job aimed at achieving malicious ends. The author, Chief Adegoke Adeyanju Awoso, who self-referentially styles himself as “The Afi Opateotemole of Yewaland,” engages in crude historical revisionism, attempting to attribute Ogun State Governor Prince Dapo Abiodun’s electoral...
Opinion: Why being an entrepreneur is a lifestyle decision
Lifestyle “Find a job you enjoy doing, and you will never have to work a day in your life,” Mark Twain famously remarked. Yet, many people find themselves trapped in jobs that feel more like a “day prison” than a fulfilling career. They suffer from a lack of pride in their organisation, minimal appreciation, an absence of challenges, and an unwillingness to go beyond basic requirements. These symptoms reflect a deeper dissatisfaction that can lead to a loss of autonomy, self-worth, and even a sense of humanity—similar to the feelings reported by real prisoners.Lifestyle The Escape Route: Embracing the Misfit WithinFor those who feel trapped in this metaphorical day prison, the idea of a sea change in retirement or escaping on a cruise ship might be appealing. However, there’s another option: embracing the fact that you...
