Taco Bueno Launches “Chimis for Change” Campaign to Support Survivors of Domestic Violence

NASENI launches ₦250m innovation challenge for youth

Nigeria’s National Agency for Science and Engineering Infrastructure (NASENI) has launched a ₦250 million innovation challenge aimed at supporting young inventors with funding, mentorship and access to technology hubs. The InnovateNaija Challenge, to be unveiled on Thursday, September 4, at the GITEX Nigeria technology fair in Lagos, is designed to identify breakthrough ideas in science, engineering and manufacturing. The programme is supported by AfriLabs and the Presidency, with organisers describing it as Nigeria’s largest youth-focused innovation competition. The challenge will run for three months and will feature two phases. In the first stage, one innovator will be selected from each of Nigeria’s 36 states and the Federal Capital Territory, making a total of 37. In a bid to create a sustainable ecosystem fostering the Agenda 2063 of “Africa We Want,” the African Union Commission (AUC), in collaboration with the African Capacity Building Foundation (ACBF) and AUDA-NEPAD, is calling for strong consortia proposals under its initiative, the Africa Think Tank Platform (ATTP). The transformative initiative, generously funded with $50 million from the World Bank, is expected to elevate African think tanks to become the architects of “cross-border development policy,” according to a press release signed by Fatou Diouf, Head of Communications and Influencing, ACBF. The think tanks are expected to apply as 3–5-member consortia with strong proposals to pursue policy-relevant research across the six thematic areas of the African Union.
