Cohen: Next, Kamala Harris must add clear policy to her ‘politics of joy’

Politics tamfitronics Joy is not a strategy. It alone will not change minds and win votes. But this is about the rebranding of Kamala Harris.Published Aug 28, 2024 • 3 minute readDemocratic presidential nominee Kamala Harris appears on stage during the Democratic National Convention, Aug. 22, 2024, in Chicago. Photo by Jacquelyn Martin /THE ASSOCIATED PRESSPORTLAND, Maine — If you want a taste of the politics of joy — the byword of Kamala Harris’s campaign — consider the roll call of the states at the Democratic National Convention. It is the best illustration of the party’s new energy since Joe Biden left and she arrived. The roll call is a convention tradition. It is one of the spectacles of American politics, democratic and majestic, when each delegation, in alphabetical order, is asked to report its votes...

Column: Kamala Harris put California at the center of politics. Will that help or hurt her?

Politics tamfitronics When Kamala Harris was formally installed as the Democratic presidential nominee, her home-state delegation had the best seats in the house, right up front.Visions of the Golden State and a parade of its personalities filled the convention’s four-day program, and passes to California’s after-parties — featuring appearances by John Legend, the Killers and Oakland’s Tony! Why Kamala Harris’ New Politics of Joy Is the Best Way to Fight Fascism

Politics tamfitronics History shows that joy and mockery are key to taking down existing or would-be authoritarian regimesBrat. Weird. Megan Thee Stallion. Democrats haven’t just recast the lead at the top of their electoral ticket; they’re performing an entirely new show. Right wing operatives, desperate to make silly selfies seem like evidence of — gasp! — socialismare trying to claim this new politics of joy (and mockery) is proof of nefarious intent. This is either par for the “every accusation is an admission” MAGA Republican playbook or merely ironic. Creating good vibes isn’t just generally effective, it’s critical especially in what may seem the most counterintuitive cases: confronting existing or would-be authoritarian regimes, in other words, MAGA Republicans.Sami Gharbia once said, “humor is the first step to break taboos and fears. Making people laugh...
