PH gov’t, ICC must pursue justice for murders –Archbishop Soc Villegas

Lingayen-Dagupan Archbishop Socrates Villegas on Wednesday urged the International Criminal Court (ICC) and the Philippine government to pursue justice and hold accountable those responsible for the crimes, as the country marked the 40th anniversary of the People Power Revolution. During the Eucharistic celebration at the National Shrine of Mary, Queen of Peace, Our Lady of EDSA (EDSA Shrine), Villegas described the country’s justice system as “defective” and “not ideal.” “ICC of the Hague, kayo naman (It’s your turn). The ruling, delivered on Monday, found Ekpa guilty of inciting terrorism and participating in the activities of a terrorist group. According to Yle, a Finnish newspaper, the court said Ekpa had used his “significant social media following” to fuel unrest in the South-East between August 2021 and November 2024. In a unanimous decision, the three-member panel of judges described him as an influential figure within a militant separatist movement seeking to establish a Biafra state from Nigeria. Court remands suspects over murder of Offa Health College student

By Saka Laaro, Ilorin The Kwara State High Court in Ilorin on Monday arraigned seven suspects in connection with the murder of Mojisola Awesu, a student of the State College of Health Technology, Offa, whose tragic death occurred last year. However, the court was unable to take their pleas as the two principal accused persons, Happiness Adebayo and Timileyin Kolawole, were not represented by legal counsel. Presiding over the case, Justice Ibrahim Yusuf ordered that Adebayo and Kolawole be remanded in a correctional facility pending their proper arraignment on February 24. Investigations revealed that Awesu was allegedly lured to Ilorin by Adebayo and Kolawole, where she was murdered and her body dumped at a dumpsite in the city.
