The AME Church is the world’s oldest Protestant denomination, established by persons of African descent.Since 1816, the AME Church has convened at least every four years to review and change the denomination’s laws and policies, receive reports from its agencies, and elect denominational leadership. The guiding theme and scripture for the General Conference is “The Pandemics, the Promise and the Plan,” drawn from Jeremiah 29:11. Top Stories Tamfitronics NAIROBI, Kenya (RNS) — African faith leaders are calling for debt forgiveness as the Vatican’s 2025 Jubilee year approaches to help their countries tackle growing economic crises.“We urgently need a new debt jubilee to bring hope to humankind, and to bring the planet back from the brink of becoming uninhabitable,” said 27 religious leaders from 13 countries, addressing the G20, G7, United Nations, IMF and World Bank in a July 19 statement.Participants in the Kigali, Rwanda, meeting included representatives from the Catholic Church as well as Anglicans, Lutherans, other Protestants, Muslims and both interfaith and national councils of churches.
