Mick Clifford: New chapter in the extraordinary tale of Celtic Tiger developer Paddy Byrne
Seven years before the terrace of houses he built was burnt to the ground, Paddy Byrne’s helicopter crashed in a hotel carpark.
The events were unrelated, but together gave a rare glimpse of a Celtic Tiger developer, who he was, what became of his work.
He has flitted in and out of the headlines since. There he is, emerging from his bankruptcy. Is that the same Paddy Byrne who built the dangerous homes in Newbridge, now back in business with another company?Listen to the bankruptcy official in the UK describing him as trying to “cheat creditors”.Down in the courts earlier this year there was a liquidator claiming that Mr Byrne was ducking and diving, buying a hugely expensive vehicle for himself while creditors whistled Dixie. And now, the latest incarnation of the extraordinary Mr Byrne. He is currently in...
Is it aliens? Here’s why that’s the least important question about 3I/ATLAS.
On October 29, Comet 3I/ATLAS reached its closest point to the sun.
This point, known as perihelion, was around 210 million kilometers from the sunor 1.4 times the distance between the sun and Earthand it was on the opposite side of the sun to Earth. This means the sun had been blocking the comet from our view (from Earth). Now, ground telescopes have begun watching it again. When it was first detected on July 1 2025 by the Asteroid Terrestrial Last Alert System (or "ATLAS"), one of the first questions people asked was "but is it aliens?".
This isn't the first time the alien question has come up in the context of a new astronomical discovery. But although it might be fun, it can also detract from the real (and very cool) science, and fuel misinformation.A long history...

Schedule a Free Canadian Citizenship Consultation with the Cohen ImmigrationLaw Firm
The amendments, introduced by committee for the bill’s second reading, would have limited citizenship rights to children born outside Canada to Canadian citizens by descent, preventing many children from inheriting citizenship from their Canadian parents by birth or adoption.
The proposed amendments, which were removed, aimed to restrict second-generation citizenship by descent in the following ways:Requiring that the Canadian parent(s) meet a stricter version of the original bill’s substantial connection to Canada test.Requiring that children aged 18 or older when applying for citizenship undergo a security...

At Moms for Liberty Summit, Parents Are Urged to Turn Their Grievances Into Lawsuits
This story was produced byThe Hechinger Report,a nonprofit, nonpartisan news outlet focused on education.
KISSIMMEE, Fla. — It’s not a rebrand. But the Moms for Liberty group that introduced itself three years ago as a band of female “joyful warriors” shedding domestic modesty to make raucous public challenges to masks, books and curriculum, is trying to glow up.
The group’s national summit this past weekend at a convention center outside Orlando leaned into family (read: parental rights), faith — and youth. The latter appeared to be a bid to join the cool kids who are the new face of conservatism in America (hint: young, Christian, very male), as well as a recognition of the group’s “diversity,” which includes grandparents, men and kids.
But even as the youth...
Tragedy Awaits UFC Paramount Partnership as 1000+ Employees Face Bad News
In July, Paramount and Skydance Media completed an $8 billion merger to form Paramount Skydance Corp. The strategic move came amid restructuring and was followed by reports in August revealing that Jeff Shell, former NBCUniversal CEO and now President of Paramount Skydance, confirmed the company wants to implement swift cost cuts and layoffs ahead of the company’s Q3 2025 earnings report to be shared with investors in November.
