South-South cooperation: Morocco makes education a strategic pillar

In accordance with the enlightened royal vision, Morocco makes education a strategic pillar of a solidarity and innovative South-South cooperation, underlined the Moroccan delegation on Wednesday during a public session of the African Union Peace and Security Council (CPS of the AU).

“True to the enlightened vision of His Majesty King Mohammed VI, may God assist him, Morocco reaffirms his firm commitment to work alongside brothers and African partners to ensure that each child can learn in a safe, inclusive and hopeful environment”, underlined the Moroccan delegation during this public session on “education in situations of conflict in Africa”, noting that for the kingdom, development.

In this sense, she recalled that each year, thousands of students from the five regions of the continent benefit from the scholarships offered by the Kingdom, opening up access to high -level university and professional training in strategic fields such as sciences, health, agriculture, engineering and training of trainers.

This major pillar of South-South cooperation, embodying the values of solidarity and win-win partnership, is implemented by the Moroccan Agency for International Cooperation (AMCI), which plays a central role in the reception, support and success of young Africans, she continued.

The delegation also said that beyond training, the kingdom shares its expertise in educational reforms, digitalization of content and organization of educational continuity in times of crisis, evoking joint projects with several African countries aimed at building and rehabilitation of educational infrastructure, training of national executives, and strengthening education systems in the most vulnerable.

The delegation also indicated that armed conflicts and prolonged crises which affect certain states have devastating impacts on educational systems, specifying that the destruction of school infrastructure, the forced displacement of teachers and students, as well as the prolonged interruption of courses seriously hamper access to education.

On another register, the redirection of financial resources to military efforts more weakens the quality, inclusiveness and continuity of educational devices, argued, noting that these realities deprive whole generations of fundamental achievements, weaken the social fabric and fuel a vicious circle of marginalization and instability.

She also stressed that education is not limited to the simple recognition of a fundamental right but also constitutes an essential strategic lever to prevent conflicts and lastingly consolidate peace, believing that by promoting the universal values of tolerance, mutual respect and intercultural dialogue, education forms responsible citizens, capable of peacefully resolving disputes and building resilient societies.

In this regard, the Moroccan delegation has focused on the imperative, even in crisis, to invest in sustainably in inclusive and quality education systems, to protect educational establishments as well as sanctuarized spaces, and to offer children a future carrying hope and opportunities.

“Investing in education means investing in the security, stability and sustainable development of our continent, thus guaranteeing a peaceful future for future generations,” she concluded.
