CITAD trains BUK lecturers on fintech, blockchain technology
The main aim of the training was to deepen participants’ knowledge of digital financial systems and assist in integrating these new concepts into academic programmes. CITAD hoped the sessions would help make fintech and blockchain core parts of university teaching.
Mr. Isa Garba, Senior Programme Officer at CITAD, stressed that the training would bridge the gap between academic theory and market needs. He noted that such programmes create valuable partnerships between the university and the wider community.
Garba explained, “Academia is usually theory-based, while the market focuses on practical skills. Our goal is to make sure both work together for society’s benefit.” He added that thorough understanding of fintech and blockchain is crucial in a rapidly changing, IT-driven world.
He emphasized that university lecturers were selected on purpose, given their key role in passing on knowledge to students and, indirectly, to the broader community. “Training a lecturer means you’re indirectly training hundreds of students and society as a whole,” he remarked.
CITAD affirmed its commitment to supporting educators and communities by constantly delivering programmes that enable growth in IT knowledge. Garba said partnerships like this are vital for development.
Speaking for the participants, Prof. Kabiru Tahir-Hamid from the Department of Accounting said the training was highly impactful and the first of its kind at the faculty. He highlighted the importance of the programme for both academic and personal growth.
Dr. Aisha Aminu, another BUK lecturer, praised the organizers for simplifying complex fintech and blockchain concepts during the sessions. She expressed excitement at having gained practical, accessible new skills which will benefit her teaching and students.
