16 food items affected by new Welsh supermarket ban
The Senedd this year gave the green light to fresh rules designed to combat obesity across Wales, by restricting the marketing of junk food.
These measures, expected to take effect within the next eight months or so, will focus on products loaded with fat, sugar and salt – encompassing items such as yoghurts, cereal, pizza and chocolate sweets.
Products will be prohibited from placement within two metres of tills or queueing zones, aimed at curbing spontaneous purchases.
Promotional deals like “buy one, get one free” or “three for two” will similarly face limitations on such goods. Additionally, the rules will outlaw complimentary drink top-ups for sugar-laden beverages at eateries and fast-food outlets.

Flats the size of garden sheds are being built in a Welsh ‘high-rise HMO’
A Cardiff charity has raised concerns about the introduction of a new type of apartment block in the city made up of living spaces that will be the size of a garden shed. Cardiff Council’s planning committee approved plans last month for what will be the city’s first purpose built blocks of co-living apartments at the site of Asset House in Penarth Road.
At the time of the planning committee meeting, councillors praised the chosen location of the development and its use of brownfield land.
However, Cardiff Civic Society and others have questioned what the approval of the homes, likened to ‘high rise HMOs’ could mean going forward.

Major changes proposed for one of Wales’ best loved bays, but there’s a cost
Swansea Council has announced that change might be coming to one of Gower’s most loved bays. Following the recently completed redevelopment of Mumbles promenade, the council has now invited ideas to “significantly improve” Langland Bay.
The local authority is now inviting businesses to lease a 0.9 acre piece of land close to the bay, in a bid to add new leisure facilities. But there is a downside – the land, which is situated in Alma road, currently houses three tennis courts. The site also includes a public toilet block and a small, detached building which is vacant.
