Donald Trump has escalated tensions between Washington and one of its closest Latin American allies, declaring the US will slash assistance to Colombia and enact tariffs on its exports because its president, Gustavo Petro, “does nothing to stop” drug production.
Trump referred to Petro as “an illegal drug leader” in a post on the Truth Social platform and warned that Petro “better close up” drug operations “or the United States will close them up for him, and it won’t be done nicely”.

Former Senate President Bukola Saraki has commended the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in Kwara State for the successful conduct of its local government congresses across the 16 councils.
Saraki, in a statement signed by his press officer on local matters, Abdulganiyu Abdulqadir, on Sunday, described the exercise as a demonstration of the PDP’s commitment to inclusiveness, fairness and internal democracy.

Document contradicts Wike’s claim, confirms PDP NEC invitation
The Minister of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), Nyesom Wike, has revealed that he was not invited to the National Executive Committee (NEC) meeting of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP).
Speaking on Channels Television’s Politics Today on Wednesday, Wike maintained that he had no knowledge of the NEC meeting or the party’s planned national convention scheduled for November 15 and 16.
The PDP, during its NEC meeting held on July 24, had approved Ibadan, the Oyo State capital, as the venue for the convention, where a new National Working Committee (NWC) is expected to be elected.
