At Moms for Liberty Summit, Parents Are Urged to Turn Their Grievances Into Lawsuits
This story was produced byThe Hechinger Report,a nonprofit, nonpartisan news outlet focused on education.
KISSIMMEE, Fla. — It’s not a rebrand. But the Moms for Liberty group that introduced itself three years ago as a band of female “joyful warriors” shedding domestic modesty to make raucous public challenges to masks, books and curriculum, is trying to glow up.
The group’s national summit this past weekend at a convention center outside Orlando leaned into family (read: parental rights), faith — and youth. The latter appeared to be a bid to join the cool kids who are the new face of conservatism in America (hint: young, Christian, very male), as well as a recognition of the group’s “diversity,” which includes grandparents, men and kids.
But even as the youth...

The strategic move came amid restructuring and was followed by reports in August revealing that Jeff Shell, former NBCUniversal CEO and now President of Paramount Skydance, confirmed the company wants to implement swift cost cuts and layoffs ahead of the company’s Q3 2025 earnings report to be shared with investors in November.
UNAD Renews Call for Total Gambling Ad Ban in Spain
Spain’s Network for Addiction Care (UNAD) has reiterated its demand for the complete ban on all gambling and betting advertising, asserting that such promotional messaging is incompatible with prevention efforts and public health policies.
UNAD president Luciano Poyato stressed that “promoting gambling is fundamentally at odds with prevention,” warning that anyone can be susceptible to addiction, particularly when exposure starts at a young age. The network calls for comprehensive prevention and awareness initiatives, including programs that encourage healthy recreational options for youth and vulnerable groups. It also urges the prompt adoption of new regulations to cap deposits on online gambling platforms, aiming to reduce...
Nanotyrannus is Distinct Dinosaur Lineage, New Research Shows
Paleontologists have examined an exceptionally well-preserved, near somatically mature tyrannosaur skeleton from the Hell Creek Formation of Montana. Their results show that the specimen shares features with the holotype specimen of Nanotyrantand demonstrate that this lineage is distinguishable from Tyrannosaurus.A pack of Nanotyrant brazenly attacks a juvenile Tyrannosaurus rex. Using growth rings, spinal fusion data and developmental anatomy, the researchers demonstrated that the new specimen was around 20 years old and physically mature.
Its skeletal features — including larger forelimbs, more teeth, fewer tail vertebrae, and distinct skull nerve patterns — are features fixed early in development and biologically incompatible with Tyrannosaurus rex.

Don’t Give Donald Trump’s Half-Baked Elections Plans More Juice Than They Deserve
This article is part of TPM Cafe, TPM’s home for opinion and news analysis.
An early episode of South Park features a subplot in which tiny gnomes sneak into the houses of South Park residents in order to steal their underpants. When asked why, they explain that collecting underpants is just the beginning: “Well, Phase 1, we collect underpants.” “What about Phase 2?” “Well, Phase 3 is profit.” When pressed, they explain again: “You see, Phase 1, collect underpants. Phase 2 … . Phase 3, profit.”
It’s a beautifully crisp lampooning of half-baked ideas, built for business plans but readily adaptable to any sort of scheme. And it’s profoundly relevant to the current electoral conversations.
Last month, President Trump...
Chicago Has Hundreds of Thousands of Toxic Lead Pipes—and Millions of Unspent Dollars to Replace Them
This story is a partnership between Inside Climate News, Grist and WBEZ, a public radio station serving the Chicago metropolitan region.
CHICAGO—No U.S. city has more toxic lead pipes pumping water into people’s homes. And millions of federal and city dollars earmarked to replace them remain unused, a city official said Monday, at the same time that the city is struggling to keep up with deadlines to warn people of the risks.
Replacements of Chicago’s more than 412,000 confirmed and suspected lead service lines are lagging. The city doesn’t anticipate replacing all its pipes until 2076, some 30 years after a federal deadline. Lead plumbing can leach the toxic metal into drinking water, causing brain damage, developmental delays and other harms.
Water department officials say they can’t afford to move as quickly as federal deadlines require, but Department...
