Disband caretaker committee now, group tells Kogi PDP NWC

Content of Supreme Court Judgment Reveals Tenures of Local Government Chairmen, Councillors

Politics tamfitronics The Certified True Copy (CTC) of the Supreme Court judgment on local government autonomy has clarified the tenures of local government chairmen and councillors across Nigeria.Although the judgement was delivered by Justice Mohammed Garba and six others on May 11, 2024, the Certified True Copy (CTC) of it was recently made public.According to the CTC of the judgment, local government chairmen and councillors will enjoy a four-year tenure, similar to state and federal executives.The Supreme Court judgment stressed that local government areas (LGAs) are constitutionally the third tier of government, with guaranteed political and financial independence.
