Disband caretaker committee now, group tells Kogi PDP NWC

Politics tamfitronics The Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) Frontliners, on Saturday, August 10, called on the party’s National Working Committee (NWC) to disband the Kogi PDP Caretaker Committee.In a statement jointly signed by its president, Hussein Mohammed, secretary, Moses Abidemi and  Publicity Secretary Dan Okafor the group,commended the NWC for rejecting attempts to replace the credible ward and local government congresses’ results with another slated for Aug. 10 by the state caretaker committee.The group said that it was worrisome that in spite firm opposition by 18 out of the 21 PDP local government chairmen in Kogi, the caretaker committee insisted on replacing the July 27 ad hoc delegates conference in the state.The statement said, “The PDP Frontliners hereby demand immediate disbandment of the controversial Kogi PDP Caretaker Committee.“We applaud the NWC for an emphatic memo dated Aug....

Politics tamfitronics The Certified True Copy (CTC) of the Supreme Court judgment on local government autonomy has clarified the tenures of local government chairmen and councillors across Nigeria.Although the judgement was delivered by Justice Mohammed Garba and six others on May 11, 2024, the Certified True Copy (CTC) of it was recently made public.According to the CTC of the judgment, local government chairmen and councillors will enjoy a four-year tenure, similar to state and federal executives.The Supreme Court judgment stressed that local government areas (LGAs) are constitutionally the third tier of government, with guaranteed political and financial independence.
