Marquis Who’s Who Honors Paul Schroeder-Haag for Expertise in Mental Health Services

Mr. Schroeder-Haag has established a distinguished career in faith-oriented mental health and addiction therapy, marked by a commitment to Jesus Christ and to empowering individuals and advocating for those affected by trauma and domestic violence. Since 2019, he has served as a mental health and addiction therapist at NEW Perspectives Christian Counseling LLC in Allouez, Wisconsin. In this capacity, he is responsible for running the business, treating clients, and managing administrative operations. He has created the framework for a mental health wellness program designed to help those in the public safety sector cope with job-related stressors and traumas to help these needed professionals remain healthy throughout their careers. Mr. Schroeder-Haag’s expertise in domestic violence intervention and trauma work has enabled him to provide a voice for individuals facing challenging circumstances, helping them advocate for themselves, ensure their safety and recognize their intrinsic worth beyond their situations.
Before launching his practice, Mr. Schroeder-Haag worked as a mental health and addiction counselor at WLCFS-Christian Family Solutions (formerly Wisconsin Lutheran Child & Family Service Inc.), a Christ-centered counseling care facility in Appleton from 2017 to 2019. There, he provided counseling services to individuals struggling with addiction and mental health issues, further honing his skills in trauma-informed care.
Between 2016 and 2017, Mr. Schroeder-Haag was a mental health and alcohol and other drug abuse counselor-in-training at Options Treatment Programs in the Green Bay area. This position allowed him to gain valuable experience working with clients facing substance use disorders while under supervision as he completed his advanced training. This position came after completing a counseling internship in 2016 at Lutheran Social Services of Wisconsin and Upper Michigan, Inc. in Appleton. During this period, Mr. Schroeder-Haag developed foundational clinical skills to inform his later practice.
Mr. Schroeder-Haag’s professional journey also included experience in education. He initially worked as a substitute paraprofessional from 2012 to 2013 for the Green Bay Area Public School District in Green Bay, Wisconsin. He also served as a secondary Title I paraprofessional between 2012 and 2016, supporting homeless special students in a high-poverty school environment while pursuing his master’s degree. Beyond teaching, Mr. Schroeder-Haag contributed extensively to youth athletics through the district. He served as an assistant varsity baseball coach at Green Bay West High School in 2013 and coached football for Green Bay East High School from 2012 to 2015. While coaching football, Mr. Schroeder-Haag organized Thursdays with Coach, an evening of home-cooked meals and homework to help kids succeed in the classroom, in the community, and on the field. He also worked to bring vouchers for free Thanksgiving Day meals for underprivileged families at his school. Notably, he began coaching at age 15 with Little League baseball. He has also coached youth tackle football, flag football, girls’ youth softball, soccer, and girls’ basketball.
Before entering the fields of education and counseling, Mr. Schroeder-Haag spent over a decade in law enforcement. He was a police sergeant at the University of Wisconsin-Green Bay from 2011 to 2012, following his service as a police officer with the Plymouth Police Department between 2003 and 2011 and the Watertown Police Department from 2001 to 2003. He served as an instructor in police tactical skills, using his knowledge of psychology to create meaningful department-level trainings. These experiences provided Mr. Schroeder-Haag with unique insights into crisis intervention and public safety, perspectives that continue to inform his therapeutic approach.
Mr. Schroeder-Haag’s academic background is both broad and specialized. He received a Bachelor of Science in psychology from the University of Wisconsin, Green Bay, in 2000, followed by a Master of Science in criminal justice at the University of Wisconsin, Platteville in 2006 and a master’s degree in counseling from Lakeland University in Plymouth, Wisconsin, in 2016.
In addition to his formal education, Mr. Schroeder-Haag holds several advanced credentials that underscore his expertise, accumulating over 200 continuing education credits in trauma treatment. He is recognized as a certified child and adolescent trauma professional, a certified clinical trauma professional — level two, and a certified family trauma professional through the International Trauma Training Institute LLC, is a certified neuropsychotherapist through Mind Works Professional Education, Inc, and a licensed professional counselor through the Department of Safety and Professional Services for the State of Wisconsin. He has also received training in the use of Brainspotting, EMDR and Written Exposure Therapy.
Throughout his career, Mr. Schroeder-Haag has maintained active memberships in several professional organizations, including the Wisconsin Counseling Association, the American Counseling Association and the American Psychological Association. Outside of his professional pursuits, he is active civically, donating therapy hours to a local private school on several occasions following traumatic experiences at the school. Mr. Schroeder-Haag is also a donor for cancer benefits, supporting families in need in various communities, reflecting his commitment to community well-being. He also enjoys coaching sports, a passion that allows him to mentor the youth on and off the field.
As an author, Mr. Schroeder-Haag is working on “Echoes from the Fallen: What the Church Needs to Hear from Trauma Victims,” which explores how faith communities can better support those affected by trauma.
Mr. Schroeder-Haag attributes his success to faith in Jesus Christ, drive, determination, and learning from those around him, which have guided him throughout his multifaceted career. Looking ahead, he intends to complete his Doctor of Psychology while editing his forthcoming book on trauma victims’ experiences within church communities. He has also begun writing a second book focused on what the church needs to know about public safety professionals. As an individual deeply interested in neuroscience, Mr. Schroeder-Haag is seeking innovative ways to measure therapeutic outcomes using brain scanning technology, aiming not only to understand what works but why interventions are effective so that he may further expand his impact on those he serves to expand further his impact on those he serves.
