Planned Parenthood files legal challenge to protect Medicaid funding in South Carolina

A new legal challenge from Planned Parenthood seeks to preserve Medicaid payments for its health centers in South Carolina after a Supreme Court decision put the federal funding in jeopardy. On Thursday, Planned Parenthood South Atlantic filed an amended complaint in federal court challenging the constitutionality of executive orders from Republican Gov. Henry McMaster that block Medicaid reimbursements for organizations providing abortions, even though the funds are used to provide other medical care. The South Carolina clinics provide services such as contraception, cancer screenings, annual exams and testing for sexually transmitted diseases.“This case is about Planned Parenthood’s provision of essential health care services, other than abortionto its patients in South Carolina,” the complaint states, noting that terminating the provider from Medicaid “will have a devastating impact on its ability to provide a wide range of non-abortion...

Death of two female councillors not political – Lagos APC

The Lagos State chapter of the All Progressives Congress, APC, has rejected claims linking the recent deaths of two female councillors in the state to politics, describing such suggestions as baseless and insensitive. The deceased councillors are Oluwakemi Rufai, who represented Ward C1 in Ibeju-Lekki Local Government Area, and Zainab Shotayo, the only female councillor in Odiolowo-Ojuwoye Local Council Development Area, Ilupeju. Both women died within the same week, less than a month after taking office, sparking public speculation about possible political undertones. Responding to the insinuations, the Lagos APC spokesperson, Seye Oladejo, cautioned against spreading misinformation and politicising the deaths. He said: “It was reported that they were indisposed. Their deaths had nothing to do with politics. Wherever such insinuations are coming from demeans humanity if properly considered. Death is inevitable, and it can occur at any...

Common Food Additive Solves Decades-Long Neuroscience Problem

Stanford scientists have found an unexpectedly simple way to mass-produce tiny brain-like structures in the lab. This breakthrough could transform how researchers study brain development, disorders, and potential treatments. Credit: ShutterstockA food additive made mass production of brain organoids possible. Researchers can now study development and disease at scale. A cross-disciplinary group of Wu Tsai Neuro researchers working with clusters of human neurons known as organoids aimed to expand their work and pursue larger scientific questions. The solution was all around them. For nearly ten years, the Stanford Brain Organogenesis Program has advanced a transformative way to study the brain. Instead of relying on intact brain tissue from humans or animals, the team grows three-dimensional brain-like structures in the lab using stem cells, producing models referred to as human neural organoids and assembloids. Launched in 2018 as part...

Qualcomm’s third-gen Snapdragon 8 Elite to reportedly come in two versions amid soaring TSMC 2nm costs

Qualcomm is reportedly adopting a dual-version strategy for its third-gen Snapdragon 8 Elite chipset (2026 flagship) to offset the rising costs of TSMC’s 2nm process, according to tech blogger Digital Chat Station. The upcoming flagship platform SM8950, which is likely the third-generation Snapdragon 8 Elite, will fully utilize TSMC’s 2nm technology. Meanwhile, Qualcomm is reportedly preparing a second variant, SM8945, with slightly lower specifications. This approach is similar to Apple’s strategy of offering both standard and Pro versions in its A-series chips. The move comes as the cost of 2nm wafers has reportedly reached $30,000 a piece.
