NASA Glenn Offers Students Work-Based Learning Through Engineering Institute

Doreen ZudellEditorAug 13, 2025This summer, NASA’s Glenn Research Center in Cleveland hosted the NASA Glenn High School Engineering Institute, a free, work-based learning experience designed to prepare rising high school juniors and seniors for careers in the aerospace workforce. “The institute immerses students in NASA’s work, providing essential career readiness tools for future science, technology, engineering, and mathematics-focused academic and professional pursuits,” said Jerry Voltz of NASA Glenn’s Office of STEM Engagement. Throughout the five-day sessions (offered three separate weeks in July), students used authentic NASA mission content and collaborated with Glenn’s technical experts. They gained a deeper understanding of the engineering design process, developed practical engineering solutions to real-world challenges, and tested prototypes to address key mission areas such as:Acoustic dampening: How can we reduce noise pollution from jet engines?Power management and distribution: How can we...

Boko Haram Victims In Borno Flee To Cameroon At Night Over Fear Of Renewed Attacks

Hundreds of residents of Kirawa, a community in Borno State displaced by Boko Haram insurgents, have cried out over their worsening living conditions after taking refuge in villages across the Cameroon border. The residents, who spoke with Punch on Tuesday, said they now spend the day in Nigeria but return to Cameroon at night to avoid possible midnight assaults. According to the villagers, the situation worsened following Saturday’s attack, which led to the withdrawal of troops from the community. Many displaced persons have now resorted to sleeping on roadsides, in mosques, and inside classrooms in the Cameroonian villages hosting them. The District Head of Kirawa, Abdulrahman Abubakar, confirmed the development and appealed to the government to urgently restore security in the area. He said, “We can no longer sleep with our two eyes closed, as our people now juggle between...

Although he has yet to make a formal declaration, the lawmaker said he already considers himself a member of the APC. While he did not give specific reasons for his planned defection, he suggested that current political realities might not favour his continued stay in the SDP. The senator expressed strong confidence in President Tinubu's political strength, insisting no opposition party would have the space or support to challenge his re-election bid. Wadada, while speaking with State House correspondents, said, “I am in the Senate under the platform...
