Hurricane Helene’s gravity waves revealed by NASA’s AWE

NASA Space Technology On Sept. 26, 2024, Hurricane Helene slammed into the Gulf Coast of Florida, inducing storm surges and widespread impacts on communities in its path. At the same time, NASA's Atmospheric Waves Experiment, or AWE, recorded enormous swells in the atmosphere that the hurricane produced roughly 55 miles above the ground. Such information helps us better understand how terrestrial weather can affect space weather, part of the research NASA does to understand how our space environment can disrupt satellites, communication signals, and other technology.These massive ripples through the upper atmosphere, known as atmospheric gravity waves, appear in AWE's images as concentric bands (artificially colored here in red, yellow, and blue) extending away from northern Florida."Like rings of water spreading from a drop in a pond, circular waves from Helene are seen billowing westward...

Victor Collins earns national team call-up ahead of AFCON qualifiers

NASA Space Technology From Abel Leonard, Lafia Nasarawa United FC’s central defender, Victor Collins, has been called up to Nigeria’s Senior Men’s National Football Team, the Super Eagles, as they prepare for the upcoming Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) Qualifiers against Benin Republic and Rwanda. Collins, a standout talent in the Nigeria Premier Football League (NPFL), is the only home-based player in the Super Eagles’ 23-man squad selected by Coach Augustine Eguavoen for the qualifiers. The Super Eagles will face Benin Republic away on Thursday, November 14, 2024, followed by a home game against Rwanda on Monday, November 18, 2024. NNPCL Disclaims Video Of Adulterated Fuel Sold In Bottles, Jerrycans

NASA Space Technology The Nigerian National Petroleum Company Limited (NNPCL) has dissociated itself from a viral video clip showing an unknown person pouring a dark liquid which he claimed to be Premium Motor Spirit (PMS) purportedly bought from an NNPC Retail outlet at Keffi in Nasarawa State.Chief Corporate Communications Officer of NNPC Limited, Olufemi Soneye, refuted the claim in the video in a statement issued in Abuja on Thursday, saying the oil company carried out spot checks at all its outlets and found the claim to be false.He also said the substance or liquid couldn’t have been bought from any NNPC Retail outlet as the oil company does not dispense petroleum products into bottles or jerrycans as displayed in the video.“The attention of the Nigerian National Petroleum Company Limited (NNPC Ltd) has been drawn to...
