Credit: Collimate SpaceSAN FRANCISCO – Collimate Space, a new Silicon Valley startup, aims to tackle a specific problem for satellite operators.Collimate offers a tool for predicting the success of satellite downlinks, after considering space weather, terrestrial weather and the location and profile of ground-based antennas. That’s valuable because satellite operators can say to a customer, ‘I can get you the data with 90-percent confidence,’” Guillermo Jenaro, Collimate co-founder and CEO, told SpaceNews. “It gives you more precision in your prediction. This will empower our customers to say yes to customers they could not assist before.”In addition, once satellite operators understand the probability of success for various downlinks, they can “reverse-engineer” their operations to improve the odds of success, Jenaro...

L3Harris Rapidly Advances U.S. Hypersonic Missile Tracking and Defense Capabilities
Top Stories Tamfitronics Threats to our national security increase every day as the United States’ near-peer adversaries develop and field sophisticated weapons on accelerated timelines – including hypersonic missiles that are faster, more elusive and more dangerous than ever before.U.S. Space Force Chief of Space Operations Gen. Chance Salzman described the current environment at the Mitchell Institute’s annual Spacepower Security Forum earlier in 2024. “We must protect our space capabilities while being able to deny an adversary the hostile use of its space capabilities, “ said Salzman. “It allows the joint force to effectively engage strategic rivals and does not compromise the safety, security, stability, and long-term sustainability of the domain.”L3Harris, for our part, is rising to the challenge by delivering resilient, integrated, space-based missile warning, tracking and defense capabilities the U.S. needs to stay...
