Houseworks: Fabric structures provide economical and durable outdoor storage

Perhaps your boat, RV or snowmobiles needs an off-season home? How about a spacious workshop? Something generically called fabric structures are worth considering. They’re made by a handful of companies, it’s a mature technology that’s been around since the early 1990s, and I’m putting one up now. This approach offers unique advantages over a regular frame building, as I’ve discovered. THIS CONTENT IS RESERVED FOR SUBSCRIBERS ONLY Subscribe now to read the latest news in your city and across Canada.Exclusive articles from Elizabeth Payne, David Pugliese, Andrew Duffy, Bruce Deachman and others. Are You Considering Chinese AI In Your Strategy?

August 12, 2025 AI ecosystems are moving fast, and smart leaders are considering all options when it comes to staying competitive. Amit Joshi is a professor at IMD Business School, and he argues that leaders should be looking to Chinese technology as a possible way to power up their strategies and growth. The adoption comes with some risks that leaders must be aware of, Joshi explains, but a careful combination of multiple AI tools could be the answer. He also explains just how far Chinese AI platforms have come since the arrival of DeepSeek, what makes them different, and examples of how companies are integrating them into their tech stacks the right way. Joshi is coauthor of the HBR article...

Space Station Cell Studies

Cells are the basic building blocks of all living things, from single-celled bacteria to plants and animals containing vast numbers of them. Cells have adapted for a wide variety of settings and functions. Nerve cells in humans and animals, for example, have long, thin extensions that rapidly transmit signals, while rigid, blocky cells support the structure of plants. Cell biology is the study of cell structure, function, and behavior. For humans, scientists in this field explore the mechanisms of diseases from bone loss to cancer and work on developing treatments. Cell-based experiments on The International Space Station help identify how spaceflight affects people and other living systems, with applications for future space exploration and life on Earth. Recent experiments have revealed that individual animal cells react to the effects of gravity, but how they do so is largely...

New Bird-Like Dinosaur from Mongolia Had Extremely Robust Hands

Paleontologists have identified a new species of dromaeosaurid dinosaur from an almost complete and articulated skeleton found in the 2000s in Mongolia.Life reconstruction of Shri predict. Image credit: Connor Ashbridge / CC BY 4.0.The newly-identified dinosaur roamed our planet during the Campanian age of the Cretaceous period, between 75 and 72 million years ago. Based on several derived features in its skull, vertebrae and skeleton, the species is referrable to a group of bird-like theropod dinosaurs called the Dromaeosauridae. Named Shri predictit is only the second species in its genus; the other species, Shri deviwas described in 2021. “Dromaeosauridae is a clade of small- to medium-sized theropod dinosaurs known from several Cretaceous units from North America, Asia, Europe, South America and eventually Antarctica and Madagascar,” said lead author Andrea Cau and colleagues. “Feather-like integumentary structures, true pennaceous feathers and...
